The written theoretical exam can also be taken in Barcelona, Spain, during the ESMO Congress (see ESMO information, www.esmo.org).


Admission requirements
Passing the specialist exam is a prerequisite for obtaining the specialist title in medical oncology (any applicable transitional provisions and exceptions: “Specialist exam – what you need to know” [in German]).

Only doctors with a federal medical diploma or a foreign medical diploma recognised by the FOPH are admitted to the specialist exam (Art. 23 WBO).

Registration for the written exam takes place directly and exclusively via the ESMO homepage (this registration does not apply to the oral exam). The registration deadlines of ESMO apply.

Admission requirements
Passing the specialist exam is a prerequisite for obtaining the specialist title in medical oncology (any applicable transitional provisions and exceptions: “Specialist exam – what you need to know“).

Only doctors with a federal medical diploma or a foreign medical diploma recognised by the FOPH are admitted to the specialist exam (Art. 23 WBO). The transitional provisions are set out in Art. 69 para. 3 of the WBO.

At least 3 years of recognised specialist continuing education.

Costs
The costs will be invoiced after receipt of registration. The actual costs depend on the number of candidates (previously approx. CHF 800-1’000).
The exam fee must be paid when registering for the specialist exam and by 31 August 2024 at the latest. If registration is withdrawn, the exam fee will only be refunded if the registration has been withdrawn at least four weeks before the exam date.

Information for holders of a foreign medical diploma

The recognition of foreign medical diplomas is carried out by the Medical Professions Commission and takes about 6 weeks. Further information can be found on the FOPH Web site.

Exam dates in subsequent years

The written exam usually takes place on the last Saturday in September; the oral exam on the last Saturday in October. The exact dates will be announced at least 6 months in advance on the ESMO website, in the Swiss Medical Journal and on this website.
